Facade of the Mahón Courts, extension

Facade of the Mahón Courts. Skylights and facade for the new headquarters of the Mahón Courts.

The extension of the courts has a clear vocation of continuity with the original headquarters built in the 90s. It is characterized by the monumentality of the stone base, which gives it that institutional character while being everyday and traditional, by the retaining walls, and by the white plastered walls in the first headquarters, more technological in the extension with a double skin glass.

The facade of the tall building is technically developed with the R70ST curtain wall system which allows the placement of double continuous skins, and the combination of materials independently. The modulation The inner skin responds to the functional and lighting needs of the interior spaces, while the modulation of the outer skin corresponds to a clear desire to regularize and uniformize the exterior appearance, making it look like a continuous skin that dialogues in parallel with the plastering of the first building. The outer skin combines clear glass, which give way to the interior of the visuals, composing an elevation of large open spaces, and glasses laminates with translucent interior vinyl, which achieve the faded white texture.

Light is a fundamental element in the work of Juan Navarro Baldeweg and in this building it is undoubtedly an essential protagonist. skylight system allows light to enter the central space, which accompanies the visitor from the main entrance, where the skylights are made in continuity with the façade and in combination with the large concrete ribs, configuring a large light coverBut light is not only essential during the day; when night falls, the building becomes a lantern that illuminates the exterior through the double translucent skin.
