Riventi built three different façade systems for the Judicial City of Las PalmasThis building was a major challenge at all levels, from the constructive definition of some elements to their assembly on site, mainly due to the logistical and time requirements that a work of this size entails in the Canary Islands.
The winning project in 2004 for the Judicial City of Las Palmas sought, in the words of the drafting team: "to offer an austere and balanced image that represented truth and justice, but without renouncing its representative character, with a variable section profile and a skin that envelops it in a rhythmic zigzag”.
To unify the different volumes that make up the building, the architects designed a special envelope, which provides natural light and sea views from all points of the building through the courtyards, and adequate thermal protection. The choice of the system R70ST It allows the integration of structural carpentry into the curtain wall without offset and also offers natural cross ventilation. The protection of the curtain wall was guaranteed by a system anodized aluminum slatted brise-soleil which integrated pieces of various colors in a zig-zag pattern. The studied inclination of these slats allowed the reflection of the colored elements located at the top of each one on the one immediately above. This creates a gradient color effect that characterizes the building. The choice of colors based on the orientation of the facade contributes to the uniform and balanced distribution of light. color range.
The building presents a very open façade towards the sea, a continuous curtain wall with a mixed system, stick in the basement and buttoned on the upper floors, which functions as a second skin on the concrete structure punctually open. These openings are not appreciated during the day, it is during the night, when the light from the interior of the building, manifests itself on the outside, through the silkscreened glass.
On the façade closest to the residential buildings, the architects sought a closed but permeable concept. This was achieved with a system of Aluminum slats with different inclinations that recall the movement of sea waves, and behave like a large Venetian blind.
