Modular façade for a 12-unit building on Hurtado Amezaga Street in Bilbao.
The aim of the project, as explained by its architects, was not to fall back on traditional solutions and resources for the enclosure of the façade. The residential building is shown to the city through the red wavy bands of its facade, which absorb the gaze in one of the streets with the most presence in Bilbao. This dynamism in the main elevation, supported by its glazed curtain wall character, offers a different way of approaching and relating to the city and its light.
This project was a challenge in the formalization of the characteristic undulations of its façade. To carry it out, after studying options with a stick system, the use of the Modular system, which allows for exhaustive control in the manufacturing of each of the pieces and therefore optimizes the installation minimizing assembly uncertainty.
Each module follows a studied formal design in which the length of a wave coincides with the height between floors, in such a way that the practicable gaps They are positioned either on the crests or in the valleys in an alternating manner. The intersection between the phase shift of two waves occurs at their node, a point chosen to also carry out the union between the modules. Thanks to this, the continuity of the breakdown of glass and windows, in addition to developing the passage of the forging at the same point with the placement of a hidden crossbar. In this way, the anchoring in the forgings can be systematized and regularized, making them completely straight.
Finally, point out how the arrangement of the windows generates a vibration within the undulations, and its adaptation to the module makes it easy to open and use, while enhancing its presence in the overall façade.
