Gamesa Wind Office Facade

Unique façade with curtain wall system for the Gamesa Eólica offices

Francisco Mangado built this technological development and research center for the company in the Sarriguren Innovation City Gamesa WindThe program, complex and with diverse functional areas, was clarified through conceptual and architectural decisions.

It is a building with a U-shaped configuration, treated as a large drilled mineral inside and open at one end, to allow vegetation to enter the courtyard. This idea is formalized in the facades contrasting the exterior, clear and delimited, with the interior, broken and open. Both the shape of the building and the materialization of the facades reinforce the idea of the mineral piece, especially the use of Laminated glass with stainless steel mesh inside, which produce reflections and provide textures depending on the incidence of light.

The building is oriented in such a way that the outer skin develops towards the east, south and west, with a system of Double glazed and ventilated facade which guarantees good energy efficiency in winter. Meanwhile, cooling in summer is achieved through the landscaped interior courtyard with large trees that act as a lung.

In the technical development of the façade of this building, several particularly unique elements should be noted. On the one hand, the treatment of the second skin as if it were a veil over the first, interspersing glass with integrated metal mesh to enhance this effect, and on the other, in the first skin, both exterior and that of the patios, the vertical rhythm which prints the elements of T-flashing and of the special profiles with reduced coreThis rhythm is only broken by the cantilevered elements, which support the outer skin, and which highlight the transition between floors in a different way, highlighting one of them in a special way.
