Double skin San José Funeral Home

Double skin San José Funeral Home

The double skin of the San José Funeral Home was installed with latticework aluminum folding using the R70ST structural curtain wall system. This allows the double skin to be anchored through the open gap between the glass panes in an efficient manner and with the best performance.

The expansion of the San José Funeral Home in Burgos is based on the functional need of complete the building program The existing building has two elements that have been in greater demand in recent times: the possibility of holding non-Catholic ceremonies and cremation as an alternative to burial. Given the longitudinal layout of the first building, the extension was naturally located at the end of the central axis, allowing communications through a walkway located on the second level and connecting the new building directly to the columbarium. The columbarium room is situated on the multi-confessional room and is related to it through a series of skylights that serve both, through a play of light, color and spatiality.

The central skylights They are transverse prismatic boxes that, in addition to allowing the controlled entry of light into the central space of the multi-confessional room, cross the columbarium room as a interior courtyards and boxes of subdued light. While the skylights relate directly to the niches, creating the right atmosphere for contemplation, the perimeter opens up to the landscape through a Double skin of glass and aluminium lattice, which, like a veil, protects the privacy of visitors.

The lattices used are organized in light modules with a carefully designed layout to provide the necessary transparency from the inside, facilitate views of the landscape and allow the passage of natural light, with shadow effects depending on the incidence of light, truly surprising. The placement of the folded aluminum lattice modules, was carried out by means of supporting brackets fixed to the main structure of the building through the open gap between glass, a fundamental characteristic of the structural system. Finally, it is worth highlighting the altar for officiating the ceremonies made of folded aluminum sheet and silkscreened glass, which has as its background a large opening towards the patio-garden with large glass windows.

The San José funeral home will have its extension ready within two months. Diario de Burgos. April 13, 2013
