Modular curtain wall system, pioneering façade for the Isozaki Towers

The Isozaki Towers, a pioneering modular curtain wall system for façades, represented a turning point in the history of Riventi. The system used for this building marked a milestone in façade manufacturing worldwide. Arata Isozaki, the architect in charge of the project, required certain characteristics for the glass façades that enclosed the towers. These requirements were both aesthetic and functional, since one of the main uses of the building was for housing. A modular façade system was devised that was “unique in the world” up to that time.

Among its peculiarities, the windows that open inwards stand out, a seemingly simple manoeuvre, but which, however, had not been possible until then in the so-called "curtain walls". The use of structural silicone to hold the glass together allows achieving the effect of continuity that the Japanese architect demanded.

The press reported that the installation of the innovative façade would be quick and easy. In just a few months, the towers were completely glazed with a total of 4,000 300kg sheets.
