Associated since its origins with the typology of office buildings, the curtain wall in homes has undergone a great evolution that allows it to adapt to this use with the most diverse technical requirements.
The curtain wall was born with the purpose of responding to the maximum constructive expression of the ideals of modern architecture of the 20th century, lightness, order, transparency and minimum constructive thickness for façade solutions. Linked to the typology of high-rise office buildings, its development was linked to the development of materials such as steel, aluminum or glass. Today, the constructive development of the curtain wall and especially that of the curtain wall in homes, is closely linked to the requirements of the different types of use for which it can serve as an enclosure.
At Riventi we have examples of all kinds, from cultural buildings to hotels and hospitals, as well as housing typologies that a priori were far from using a light façade system due to the multiple requirements, both functional and in terms of energy efficiency, that it requires. However, at Riventi we have always responded to these requirements with innovative solutions, which have introduced construction advances that have allowed us to integrate functional mechanisms and improvements in thermal performance.
Below we will detail some of our most unique examples of façades with curtain wall systems in homes with which we have built up a great deal of experience in this field.
One of our latest works has been the building Torres de Castilla Residential Complex, whose first phase is already in operation. Its main characteristic is the flexible modulation of the façade, with a random appearance but which is nevertheless fully compatible with the correct operation of a stick-type curtain wall system, whose technical requirements normally lead to results with a more patterned image. The integration of elements with increasingly demanding requirements, such as the shutter boxes, have been verified by standardized tests that guarantee all these requirements. But without a doubt the most unique characteristic of this façade is its volumetry, generated by printed glass boxes supported by aluminum frames and structural silicone, thanks to the technical advantages of the R70ST system. The Homes in Hurtado Amezaga are a very unique example of the use of the modular curtain wall system in residential buildings. To formalize the characteristic undulations of its façade, the use of the modular curtain wall system was chosen modular system, which allows for exhaustive control in the manufacturing of each of the parts and therefore optimizes the installation, reducing assembly uncertainty to a minimum. Continuing along the line of examples with a modular system, we can highlight three examples carried out in the city of Burgos, in which the curtain wall system in homes had not yet been tested.
The first of these was built in Plaza del Rey, where it is worth highlighting the sunshades integrated into each module, which serve to improve the thermal behaviour of the façade in the summer months, allowing thermal gains in the winter months. More information about the project can be found in the following link PLAZA DEL REY HOUSING
The second case corresponds to the EUROPE DOOR HOUSING
The third one we want to highlight is the PUBLIC PROTECTION HOUSING WITH MODULAR FACADE carried out by the Railway Variant Consortium
And last but not least, there was the experience gained in the construction of one of the most unique buildings in our history, the Isozaki Towers in Bilbao. The solution adopted was notable for the incorporation, for the first time in Spanish architecture, of windows that could be opened inwards in a curtain wall. More information about the project can be found in the following link. ISOZAKI TOWERS
Another unique project using curtain wall systems for residential use will soon be carried out. It will consist of the construction of the outer skin of printed glass, which forms the enclosure of the large terraces, with a modular curtain wall system. More information about the project can be found at the following link. BUILDING OF LIGHT
Finally, we would like to show some more examples carried out for residential buildings where the use of curtain wall systems was carried out very satisfactorily.
